Goan Food Festival – Vivanta By Taj, Begumpet

Goa is a mix of east meets west which is not only represented in its culture but also in their style of cooking. The ongoing Goan Food festival at Vivanta by Taj – Begumpet is a perfect treat to tantalize your Goan cravings which has imbibed the rural technique of cooking in clay pots. Chef Anthony D’souza from Vivanta by Taj – Panjim has specially been flown in to curate the festival.

Was happy to have been invited for a preview the past week where miscellaneous platters ranging from prawns to sausages, chicken to beef and numerous vegetarian dishes were on offer. Started off with a kokum based mock tail which was quite refreshing.

 

Sopa De Catolina that followed was a chicken stew with almonds and parsley. Up next were a range of sea food preparations of which King Fish Peri Peri was the first one. Made with typical ground red paste – this was as authentic as it could get. Chicken Jera Mera on the other hand had a cafreal green masala. Rawa Prawns with its crispy texture, tangy & spicy flavors were as good as I would’ve loved it to be. But the surprise of the day was Bolinhas De Bata – a deep fried mashed potato dumplings with cheese filling which were addictively good.

The buffet was equally balanced with good spread of veg and non-veg delicacies. The Chicken Xacuti and Beef Chilli Fry were perfect accompaniment to the Goan Pao while the Goan Fish Curry was a delight with steamed rice. Goan Cuisine is also influenced by the saraswat brahmins, like the Dal Varan – made of toor dal was also featured on the buffet. The Channacho Ross and Mixed Veg Mardol were the other veg delicacies on offer.

Goans take their desserts seriously. The traditional desserts are so sinfully scrumptious that your sweet tooth is sure to thank you! Was happy to see Bebinca, dodol, doce and Pinang on the menu and each sinfully good in their own league.

With over 20 plus dishes on the menu, the promotion brings the very best of culinary landscape of Goa with a menu that changes everyday. Crab Xec Xec, Galinha de Cafreal, Chicken Sukhem, Vegetable Khotkhotey and Tomato Hoomand are some of the other dishes that would be featured during the promotion that is on for dinners everyday until 2nd October, 2016.
