Haldi – the Indian specialty restaurant at Novotel Hyderabad Airport is running an Unlimited Kebabs, Breads & Beverages promotion which is a feast fit for Kebabs fanatics. Aptly termed as “Grab The Smoking Cold One” I was happy to have been invited for a bloggers table to relish the most talked about kebabs of the Indian subcontinent that is paired with a variety of breads and beverages.
The menu for the promotion had a set of fourteen different kebabs with seven vegetarian and seven non-vegetarian on offer. Started off with Murgh Malai Kebab – chunks of boneless chicken pieces marinated in cheese and served with a dash of lime which was a perfect start for the evening. I had my kebabs paired with a glass of wine while my fellow blogger paired it with Budweiser beer. Taufa-e-darla that followed next was a tandoor preparation of marinated murrel fish with saffron that lived up true to its name.
Murgh Ki Godhi was quite similar to the devilled egg that you get as a snack in Bengal. Murgh Ki Godhi was again a tandoor preparation of minced meat coated on hard-boiled egg which was quite delicious and perhaps one of my favorites for the evening. The Tandoori Jhinga that followed next had a terrific marinade with robust spices and slight tangy flavor however the prawns in itself were very rubbery.
Murgh Jhanghri Raan was definitely the star of the lot – a whole leg of chicken marinated with cashew, almond and green chilli giving it a distinct taste from the otherwise regular juicy Tandoor Raaan. Pair it with the Chilli Cheese Naan and it’s a brilliant meal in itself.
Gilafi Seekh Kebab that followed next had a balanced proportion of yoghurt and ground spices that was cooked to perfection and that was paired well with the Afghani Naan made of dry fruits. The mint chutney that was served along complimented the seekh kebab very well.
The vegetarian menu was also equally distributed with the melt in the mouth Subz Galouti Kebab being the first. Between Hara Bhara Kebab & Makai Kebab that followed next – I absolutely loved the Hara Bhara Kebab – patties made of spinach, potato and roasted gram flour and deep fried while the Makai Kebab was quite interesting in its preparation. It was terms 2 ways because of the fact that first the Baby corn is marinated with yellow chilli powder and cooked in tandoor that is later mashed with potato pattie and cooked on hot griddle.
The Tandoori Mushroom that followed next had terrific tandoor marinade however it fell short of expectations as the marinade was not equally balanced. Ashrafi Kebab – a shallow fried kebab of potato & coconut was good in its own league.
Although there were no desserts as part of the menu, Chef Unnikrishnan presented us with a special dessert platter of Haldi’s signature desserts on offer of which a special mention for the Curry Leaf flavored Ice Cream that was not only refreshing but also a good palate cleanser and a digestive in itself.
All in all it was a great promotion with some diverse range of kebabs that would not appeal to a group of friends who would want to feast on the kebabs and beverages but also for a lone diner who would want to indulge in a mixed variety of kebabs.
Cant wait to come back and try their general menu which has selected hand picked Pan Indian dishes which is a rarity to find at one place !
Thumbs up for this one !
