With more than 1000 hotels in over 64 countries – Ibis, the European hotel economic leader debuts in Hyderabad. When on a budget travel to Singapore, I did have my share of experience with Ibis and it definitely was “The Well-Being at the best price”. So when I was invited for a weekend staycation and review for Hyderabad’s first Ibis, I could’nt but accept it.
Located in the heart of Hitech City, the hotel is just a stone throws distance to all the major IT giants like Facebook, HSBC, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Deloitte etc, 15 minute drive from Hyderabad International Convention Center and 40 minutes’ drive from the airport making it an ideal choice for Business travelers.
I reached the hotel around 11 am where I was welcomed by the Front office staff – Naveen & Shivangi Gupta who ensured that the check-in process was hassle free. I was soon escorted to my room on the 7th floor. With contemporary ambiance and a Queen Sized bed, the room had all the modern amenities that I could ask for – Free Wifi with high-speed internet, in-room safe and tea/coffee maker and an HD LED TV with a wide range of channels.
I liked the minimalistic & contemporary design of the room and also liked how the room depicted a bit of local Hyderabadi culture, be it on the wall hanging or even in the complementaries. The bathroom was well equipped with health faucet & shower cubicle.
After a bit of relaxation, it was time for lunch. Lunch was arranged at SpiceIt – a vibrant restaurant located in the lobby area. Spiceit is an integrated multicuisine café that serves a regular buffet to appeal to the IT crowd and also a range of popular dishes from around the world. A special set menu was on offer where Punit Kumar – F&B beverage & Chef Mohit helped explain the dishes. Crème De Champignon, Caesar Salad, Boti Kebab, Cottage Cheese Shaslik were up first. The earthy flavors of the soup was just too good and so was the simple cottage cheese shaslik. For the mains, first up was Corn & Cheese Stuffed Ravioli with Sun-dried tomato which was rich, creamy and just like how I wanted it to be. Then there was the Indian fare of Gosht Dum Biryani, Paneer Tikka Masala, and Veg Jalfrezi.
After a scrumptious lunch – I gave into the temptation for an afternoon siesta. Although a weekend, the hotel corridor was not noisy which is unlike in the most business hotels. The serenity and comfort of the hotel in the afternoon was absolutely refreshing.
High Tea was arranged in the evening where some scrumptious delicacies of Indian & Continental fare were on offer. From dhokla to Sandwiches, Smoothies to cold pressed juices, Bruschetta, macarons and interesting selection of tea’s & cookies, I was again spoilt with choices. After the heavy lunch and also anticipating a heavy dinner, later on, I had to be content with just a few of them. Although, each of them were good in their own league, I loved the dhokla & bruschetta the most.
Soon after, Punit gave a show around of the entire property. There are about 178 smoking and 26 non-smoking rooms in the hotel with two meeting rooms that can accommodate upto 80 people. There are also luxury suite with connecting rooms which is not yet open, but would be fully functional in the next few months.
The workspace provided in the room with high speed internet was good enough for me to respond to few business emails plus also attend a skype conference.
A barbeque dinner was arranged at the alfresco section of SpiceIt where I got to try my hands on barbecuing lamb chops along with chef. The alfresco section is a gorgeous setup which is ideal for a casual conversations over few drinks. HUB– the bar located at the lobby level offered some creative cocktails and has a decent wine list. The lamb chops were well done with right amount of spices. The tandoori pomfret on offer was well an absolute delight. Well marinated with aromatic spices and then cooked in clay oven, this was absolutely delicious.
Over the course of dinner was an informative conversation of various brands that fall under accor group of hotels and the differentiator between each of them.
Day 2 began with burning off all the calories that I consumed the previous day. The gym located on the 10th floor has all the basic amenities for both cardio as well as weights. It also gives a direct view of the Cyber Towers – a landmark in Hitech City.
Soon after breakfast was arranged in the bed. Although it’s not a norm to provide breakfast in the room, Punit and Angelo Martin went out of their way to arrange it. From cereals to fresh fruits and Sausage to Omelets, the breakfast platter is everything that I could ask for. A scrumptious breakfast to begin my Monday with.
The checkout process was as expected hassle free after which I got dropped to my office in the hotel vehicle. The driver Mr Kareem being a localite gave some additional tips on the best places to visit while you are in Hyderabad.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here at Ibis. The service was impeccable and special mention about Mr Punit and Mr Angelo Martin who ensured the highest level of service.
Some of the highlights of the hotel:
- A 24hour reception so that you could check – in any time round the clock
- Breakfast starts at 4AM to midday
- A non-stop bar
- “15 minutes satisfaction” guaranteed
