Nothing beats the summer season when it comes to delicious mouthwatering mangoes that has been a pleasant and basic part of our lives. The juicy sweetness of a bite of mango has the power to rejuvenate and soothe your senses. Arguably, mangoes are best served and eaten fresh, but occasionally some go a step ahead and use the fruit as an inspiration to create an entire Sunday brunch centered around this fruit. The Annual Mango Brunch at Seasonal Tastes, The Westin Mindspace is a tasty tribute to the most delicious of tropical fruits.
Was glad to have been invited for a review of the brunch that I have been most excited about since the day I’ve heard about it. Chef Srikant Muthineni took us through the entire spread on offer which had a wide array of savories, appetizers, mains, desserts and beverages – a pleasant mix of Indian, Continental and Oriental spread. One of the things that immediately caught my attention was Chilled Chunky alphonso mango & mint soup. A steaming bowl of soup can be big turn-off when the temperature starts to climb, but chilled soups are a different story altogether. Cool, refreshing, colorful and loaded with the seasonal alphonso mango and mint, this soup was the perfect way to beat the summer heat.
If the chilled soup was not enough, the Aam Panna – made of green mangoes with a slight hint of pepper powder and sugar was very different to the conventional ones that I had so far. The cold salad section had Basil & Mango with buffalo mozzarella salsa salad which was unmissable.
A fusion of tomato salsa atop a crispy nachos is a finger food heaven but replace the tomato salsa with a mango salsa that perfectly balances the peppery taste and the result is a level higher. The tropical chips with tropical mango salsa was just that!
The live grills were also given a touch of mango. Like the Shahi Mango Gilafi sheekh has spiced minced lamb infused with peppers and a hint of raw mango while Mahi aur Kache Aam Ke Kebab had a layer of raw mango had a stuffing of raw mango that was impressive.
A crepe is an all-time delicious treat which one can fill it with however you like. Mango crepes with Chilli tenderloin, Spinach crepes with tangy mango & marinated cottage cheese, Dukkah spiced raw mango & chicken sausage shashlik were some of the crepe’s on offer which were good in their own different league.
Alphonso & himayat mango sushi that followed were perfectly topped with juicy and sweet slices of mango, Loved it !
Curry and Mango brings fabulous flavors and the talented chefs at Westin Mindspace have presented a unique spread that was unbeatable. The spread for Indian included Dasheri Aam aur Murgh Ke Pasanday – Stuffed chicken breast with mango, cooked in mild gravy, Sev aur Aam ki Sabzi– Cumin and chili flavor stir fried raw apple and mango, Achari Kathal – fried raw jack fruit flavored with pickled spice and mango powder. Continental spread included – Raw mango egg plant and fennel gratin with leek, ragouts , tomato coulis while the Oriental spread had Stir fried chicken with thai mango and spinach, Raw Mango & basil flavor stir fried soft noodle, etc.
For those with sweet tooth, there was much more to snack on Pistachio mango Éclair, Malda Mango & clove Tarte Tatin, Mango & Gulab Jamun Cheese pie, Mango Cobbler, Dasheri Mango & Coconut crunch Tart, Baginpally Mango Gateaux, Candied Carabao Mango Bavarois, Mango Shirkand, Mango & Chia seed Pudding and even cut mangoes with or without ice-cream. Mango Cobbler in particular was baked to perfection and a special mention about the Roasted almond strudel in puff pastry that was my favorite of the lot.
I personally love the spread at Seasonal Tastes and for a mango lover like me this spread was pure indulgence. With a slice of mango in every section, this expansive spread is a one of a kind Sunday Brunch that shouldn’t be missed and how I wish The Westin Mindspace inculcates it at least twice on their calendar.
Thumbs up for this one !
