Oakwood Residence Kapil Hyderabad is the first of its kind internationally managed serviced residence located in the Financial District of Gachibowli, Hyderabad. While the hotel boasts of some impressive amenities, I was keen on experiencing OakLeaf their signature restaurant that offers some delectable international gourmet classics, Asian favorites and a variety of local dishes.
The ambiance is that of a lounge styled concept, inspired décor and modern approachability. Was happy to have been invited for a review by the management of Oakleaf. After a quick round of introduction with the chef and management I settled down on the milan inspired chairs for an inviting view of the IT corridor. Chef Brijesh Kumar comes with immense culinary knowledge who has worked with some top brands and is known to produce diversified menus. The menu at Oakleaf is that of multi-cuisine with a slight emphasis on oriental and continental because of the demand with in-house guests who are mostly from Europe and South East Asia.
We started off with some colorful mock tails which were kind of a passé and then some delectable range of appetizers followed in quick succession. First up was Bharwan Mushroom Ke Kebab – a delicious stuffed mushroom caps with cheese flavored with touch of coriander that was quite good. Prawn Tempura that followed next was a perfect definition of the classic ultra-light batter fry. Chicken Tikka was tender, juicy and robust in its flavor with the marination perfectly done right.
Next up was Wok Tossed Chilli Fish which was my personal favorite – that had balanced flavors of ginger, garlic, chilli and choy sum. The Atishi Paneer Tikka was good in its own league while Chowk ki Tikki was just about okay.
Was bowled over by the Mushroom Cappuccino – an innovative soup that was rich and earthy with a proper foam, just like how you’d experience a cappuccino. Loved it ! The Tom Yum Soup is something I’d enjoy on any given winter day, the one served was nothing extraordinary but just about decent.
Insalata Caprese is that summer time salad which is the most satisfying of all tomato salads. Made of sliced mozzarella, tomatoes and green basil with olive oil dressing this one did not impress me much but although I loved the freshness of the mozzarella.
Lasagna Exotica is supposedly a hot favorite with most of the vegetarian guests in the hotel and truly this lived up to its reputation. For me a Lasagna is all about getting the layering right and I was impressed with Oakleaf’s offering. Pan Fried Pomfret with Spicy Bacon & Shrimps was an absolute stunner. A seafood person that iam, this one was easily the star of the day!
Filet Mignon was Pan Seared but I would’ve loved it to have it Sear Roasted and cooked medium rare instead of medium. Shrimp Char Kway Teow – a popular malay street food of stir fried flat rice noodles cooked in high temperature was a tad bit raw for my palate but that’s how it’s ideally supposed to be.
Loved the Gaeng Kiow Wan – the humble thai red curry with the steam rice but I would’ve been great if it was paired with the steamed jasmine rice otherwise the Thai Red curry was as authentic as it could get. The trail of varied cuisine halted with couple of Indian Dishes of which Murgh Tikka Makkhan Methi & Corn Capsicum Kaju went well with the breads while the Allepey Fish Curry was decent enough.
For the desserts Crème Caramel & Khubani ka Meetha was on offer which were just about okay. I would’ve liked the Crème Caramel to have slightly more thicker & flavorful sauce.
A quick glance at the menu and I noticed some interesting fusion dishes which definitely requires another visit. All in all Oakleaf is a great addition to ever bustling IT corridor of Gachibowli.
