Oakleaf the signature all-day diner at Oakwood Residence Kapil is one of the few places that surprises with an excellent selection of dishes. With Chef Brijesh Kumar moving out of the kitchen to become the new F&B Director, I was looking forward to meet and dine with the Executive Chef – Raegan Fernandes who is now heading the kitchen. The opportunity came knocking when an invite for a Chef’s Table to sample the new menu landed in my mailbox.
Oakleaf, now has a fully operational bar and therefore the appetizer section of the menu has been majorly revamped. Started off with the Lemonade Tandoori Prawns that came with a zest of lemon was quite delicious. Chiang Rai Chicken with its familiar Indo-Chinese flavors was an instant hit while the Oak lamb kebab was equally delicious. There was also Dahi ke kebab, Crispy Corn Salt and Pepper along with Mongolian Tostadas.
Fungi Di Cappuccino at Oakwood continues to be my personal favorite and Iam glad they have retained it. For the salads – Mesculin Greens with Pepper Relish and Warm Asian Chicken Salad was on offer and each of them were good in their own different league.
Oakleaf is known for its global offering and it clearly reflected in the choice of dishes presented for the mains. Started off with Gamberi Chimichurri – giant tiger prawn marinated in Chimichurri sauce and served on a bed of pesto, tomato and pineapple salad. The marinated prawns was perfectly cooked and was bursting with flavors. Absolutely loved it!
Next up was the classic Confit Chicken with Cranberry Jus. The chicken is salted and seasoned with herbs and then slowly cooked to make it rich and tender. Cranberry Jus was perfectly reduced to a concentrated jam like consistency and together made it a perfect main. Indeed my favorite among the mains!
The Lasagne Exotica was not at its classic best while Mutton Rogan Josh, Malai Kofta, Mapo Tofu, Gaeng keow Wahn were decent enough.
Finished it off with a platter of Blueberry Cheese Cake, Tiramisu, Crème Brule and Chocolate Mousse.
All in all, the new menu gives plenty of options for a global diner – some Conti, some European, some oriental and some Indian. There is definitely something in the menu that you’d fall in love with.
