They say it takes a Beer to make thirst worthwhile!
Toast the celebratory spirit of Oktoberfest with a hearty Prost at Altitude, Hyderabad Marriott Hotel and Convention Centre where Chef Yogender Pal and his team has curated a special menu which is arguably the most authentic Oktoberfest in town.
Was happy to have been invited to experience a one of its kind Oktoberfest scenes in Hyderabad where a range of beer cocktails and German Treats were on offer. In addition to Leffe, Hoegarden and Stella the menu also included domestic Beers and beers cocktails.
Get me Fresh – a beer pot with Tequilla, vodka, rum, gin, Cointreau, lemon juice with fresh cut fruits, cranberry juice with bottle beer was absolutely brilliant and is for sure to lift your spirits. Mexican shandy with a mix of Tequilla, Beer, Cointreau and squeezed lime juice was quite refreshing. Hangover set that followed next was a concoction of Tequila, vodka, rum, gin, Cointreau and beer.
On the menu, Pickled Egg was the first of the lot. Hard boiled eggs that is cured in vinegar and topped with sausage and dressed in sweet chilli sauce & mustard sauce was a burst of flavors and the best ever pickled egg.
This was followed by Beer & Cheddar soup which was quite aromatic especially due to the inclusion of bacon strips while the Bavarian style onion soup with thyme was good in its own league. Beer battered onion rings and fried potato with poached eggs where the other two Brotzeiten’s on offer.
A bread basket featuring specialty German breads like pumpernickel and Pretzels were also on offer.
An Oktoberfest is usually synonymous with wurstspezialitaten or sausage specialties. The menu at Altitude had the best of pork specialty sausages on offer. Pork curlies, Grilled Bratwurst with mustard and saukeraut, Nuremberger sausages, Weisswurst with pickled onions and caramel mustard, Pork wurst with sweet and sour red cabbage & mashed potatoes were some of the sausage specialties.
Since iam not a pork person, I was content with the Beef schnitzel, Onion & beef braised with lager, Mushroom pot in herb cream sauce and Potato casserole in paprika sauce – some of the Altitude specialties which were part of the special Oktoberfest menu.
The desserts included the trio of Beer Caramel Ice cream, Apple Strudel and Black forest cheese cake.
German treats are a rarity in Hyderabad. With the colonial theme of Altitude against the backdrop of Hussain Sagar Lake – it’s the perfect place to toast the celebratory spirit of OktoberFest !
Thumbs up for this one!
