From coastal delicacies of the Konkan to the staple specialities of the deccan, Maharashtrian cuisine covers from a range of mild to very spicy dishes that are not only delicious but rich and embedded with cultural influences. The ongoing “The Taste of Maharashtra” food promotion at The Westin Hyderabad Mindspace is an ode to this indigenous cuisine that combines simplicity with a side of beautiful flavours.

The malvani area of the state uses fresh coconut while the northern coastal region prefers dry coconut dish preparations” says Chef Uday Karmalkar – Chef De Cuisine from Courtyard by Marriott Mumbai who was specially flown in to curate the promotion. He goes on to add that the entire state from Marathawada, vidarbha, Malvan, Kokhapur and Mumbai is quite diverse which is reflected in their style of cooking.

Started off with some of the dishes from the live counter – Pav Bhaji, Misal Pav, Vada Pav and Tawa Pulav that were paired with a set of assorted chutneys. Except for Tawa Pulav the rest were a passé. The Koliwada counter had an interesting array of seafood with three main marinades – red chilies based, mind & coriander based and turmeric based. Fluffy soft puri’s paired with delicious chicken curry, known as Komdi Vade from the Ratnagiri region was the star of the afternoon. Absolutely loved it !

For the main course there were a lot of interesting dishes on offer such as Malwani Chole, Urda Methi, Bhendichi Bhaji, Mutton Kanda Fry, Narali Chicken, Bombay Masala Komdi Biryani. Was happy to see the comfort food of Zunka Bhakar featured on the day’s menu too. Each of them good in their own different league.

Khoya Modak, Puran Poli, Shirkhand and Satyanarayn Prasad were the desserts on offer.

The promotion is on until 26th May, 2017 at Seasonal Tastes. Kudus to Chef Uday and Chef Mukesh for ensuring to cover delicacies from the entire region of Maharashtra.
