The Grill at Vivanta by Taj, Begumpet is definitely a much sought after alfresco restaurant in town. The restaurants sits atop on the seventh floor, offering great views of the busy Begumpet surroundings. Recently the restaurant has introduced Sizzling Barbecue Nights – a carefully curated menu that offers scrumptious starters and barbecues of Indian and continental recipes.
Invited for a preview, started off with Hyderabadi Gosht Marag – a rich lamb soup with exceptional flavor that was absolutely perfect for the winter evening. Zaffrani Macchi Shammi was the first of the many scrumptious appetizers. A fish based shammi kebab although was a little too dry, it complimented the mint accompaniment. Each of the grills came with an accompaniment of garlic butter, peanut chutney, mint and pickled onions.
Tangdi Bharwan Kebab – chicken breast stuffed with minced chicken had a distinct flavor which was quite filling and quite huge for its portion size. Absolutely loved the Cajun spiced Barbecue chicken Winglets which is a delight for chicken lovers. The pan grilled Talli Huwi Mahi Mahi and the Peri Peri shrimp skewers were good in their own different league.
Hyderabadi Sigdi Paneer, Tandoori Kumb Aloo, Suran ki Galotti, Cajun spiced vegetables and Bird eye chilli Pineapple were some of the vegetarians grills on offer. I tried the Suran Ki Galotti which was very close to its non-vegetarian counterpart. It was so good that I couldn’t stop myself going for a repeat of this one.
The preplated mains had options of Indian, Hyderabadi and Continental. I opted for Indian one which had Dum ka Murgh served with assorted Indian breads. The dum ka murgh was as authentic and flavorful as the one you’d find in any of the hyderabadi restaurants. The Murgh dum biryani that was on offer was a passé. Italian Spaghetti Puttanesca and Pan grilled chicken breast with steamed vegetables were the option in continental
The dessert sampler included Palak Halwa, Khubani ka Meetha and Gulab Ice Cream. While I have always been fond of the Gulab Ice Cream at Vivanta by Taj, the Palak Halwa due to its distinct flavor did not appeal to much. The Khubani ka Meetha was just about decent.
With scrumptious starters and juicy barbecues, this is the perfect opportunity unwind by the poolside under the vast sky and to enjoy the unlimed Indo-Continental cuisine, pre plated desserts and classic cocktails.
